The box is:
---------------------------
DL320 G4
SATA RAID enabled
2GB RAM
RHES4
---------------------------
The box is working fine with the orriginal kernel (kernel-smp-2.6.9-5.EL), however when I upgrade to the latest kernel (kernel-smp-2.6.9-34.0.1.EL) the machine kernel panics at boot. My guess is that it is unnable to load the SATA RAID driver, though I'm not sure how to confirm or fix this.
Shalom,

Two options.

There is a kernel-smp-2.6.9-34.0.2.EL Kernel, or so I thought.

I've got the kernel-smp-2.6.9-34.0.0.EL
Kernel ini production on a lot of similar systems, so you may wish to just step back a bit. I had problems with clustering and those minor releases and try and stay away from them unless I have the specific issue they deal with.

SEP

Got it sorted, looks like the major issue was simple, Adaptec make the chipset for the SATA raid controller and they don't supply source code. With the souce based binary model used by linux (as opposed to the plugable windows model) we linux folk have to wait for them to support a kernel and build the binaries for us before we can use that kernel with our hardware

For the words of bigger minds http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1011195
