can't install slackware 9.0

I have windows 98 installed on my pc, it has 2 partitions, a primary and an extended..
when i try to install slackware 9.0 it crashes while detecting partitions, because it doesn't recognize the extended partition.. is there any extra parameter that i may type at the boot, or any other solution for this???

The first question is how were these partitions created? In order to create partitions for use with Linux, you must use the Linux fdisk program (available on the boot disk / boot CD). The Windows version just won't do the job.

Second, when creating an extended partition, you also need to assign a logical partition to it. While there may be good reason to do this, especially on older machines, you are allowed to have up to 4 primary partitions.

Finally, make sure you have set the correct type on the partition. Your Win98 partition will already be set and changing it will be fatal. The other two should be set to Linux and Linux swap.

According to mike,
you have to use slackware boot Cd.

You also need free partition on your PC, if not you can make it with magik partition or another soft like that. If you don't create free partition and install your OS, you can erase all windows's files/ partition ( -joke- maybe a good thing :p ).

So save your files, create free partition, launch boot cd and install Linux on this new partition.

Many another linux distrib have better installation program like Mandrake 9.1 Or redhat 8.0 . Try if you don't resolve you problem ... it's free ! :)
