Hi everybody,

I've tried to install the driver for the embeded raid controler (on Proliant DL320 G4)

======================
Os : RHEL4 U4
Kernel : 2.6.9-42.EL
PSP 7.60
2x SATA 80Go
RAID1
======================

The array is configured and enabled in BIOS.
The logical volume is recognised at startup.

So I've downloaded adpahci package (adpahci-1.2.5571-1.rhel4.i686.rpm) installed it ant after reboot the server freeze + black screen

The last post is "sda : asking for cache data failed"

Has somebody an idea ?

Thank You

Shalom,

Reinstall the OS, its trashed. Don't install the drive for the embedded raid controller. The one that ships with the system works quite well. I've got a number of such systems with DSL320 G4 in production. My ftp cluser runs on one, works very nicely without any change in drivers.

Call this adventure, a driver too far.

Its not a bad idea to isntall PSP 7.60 as you've done, it has some very nice feature. Beyond that, do the OS and make the system humm.

SEP

Hi ,

Thank's for reply.

I've made a new full install of RHEL4 U4
but RHEL4 sees 2 sata HDD and not the volume array.

So I made manual partitionning and use only the first HDD (sda) .

That works . I've installed PSP 7.60 again.

Now , how do I verify that the raid 1 works ?

It seems that 2nd HDD (sdb) is empty.
Does it not beeing a clone of sda ??

(Hope you'll understand my bad english ...)

So thats seems good.

Now, I just want to know how to check the RAID 1 is working (or configure).
The second Hdd (sdb) is ever empty.

As far as I understand, you already configured RAID 1 via raid "BIOS".
The fact that your linux sees two harddisks instead of 1 (== RAID 1) says that your linux doesn't understand that there is RAID controller.
So we need to install adpahci in order to use this "hardware" RAID.
The other option is create mirror using linux software RAID.

The RHEL4 installer may not be able to use the particular USB floppy device or may need to have "legacy USB" support enabled in the BIOS to be able to use it during installation. There is some discussion of USB installation device issues at
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/platforms/usb-support.html
(although it doesn't get into any details on specific linux releases such as RHEL4). If the particular floppy drive is a source of trouble then you may have more success with a USB flash drive.
