I suppose that I downloaded RHEL4 ISO images.
If you use RHEL4 ES upd4 see md5 sums below:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES 4 Update 4 (x86)
ISO Size MD5 Checksum
Install Disc 1 173M a8c4a13f27e3ec1a462c0f4092b922fe
Install Disc 2 625M 81f38f85af7f335ccdc981f28b886cee
Install Disc 3 632M 3ce64531d3ed8905d84e1d2a8f309fe9
Install Disc 4 616M 2c3523c425d33d76224f8555aef7a1ee
Install Disc 5 81M dd87fba8f63f6763691ac390ded87f1a

in linux you run

md5sum rhel4-disk1.iso

command and you should see the same a8c4a13f27e3ec1a462c0f4092b922fe .

BTW, can you browse files on your CD on some computer - unix/linux/windows?

Do not put the CD 1 in the system but boot it. When prompted press <F9> to enter the RBSU menu. Then check the 'Boot Order' to ensure that the CD-ROM device is the first item on the list. Also, check to ensure that the storage controller that you want to use is set to the 1st position of 'Boot Controller'.

Now put the CD in the drive and save the configuration changes with <ESC> then <F10>. If your CD is correctly built, the system should boot from it, and you can proceed with the installation. If it does not boot, I suspect your disk CD1 is corrupted.</F10></ESC></F9>

Shalom,

I do a lot of Linux installs. I noticed some disturbing issues with AS 4, update 4. It did not wish to boot off an NFS mount point as did ES. ES 4, update 4 has also had this issue intermittantly, forcing us to use install media.

I believe there are some issues, however download error, which should be evident in the iso checksum can cause some of this behavior.

SEP
