Hi Friends,

In my Linux Server after putting user name the server just hangs and it is not asking for password. The same thing is happening for console and SSH session.

Our Server is HP BL 460c blades and OS is RHEL4 Update4.

Two of the above servers are clustered with HP ServiceGuard and Websphere MQ 6.0.2 is running on it.

I don't think the hangs related to any ServiceGuard issue and am not getting any error messages in /var/log/messgaes.

If anybody faced this type of problem or any suggestion regarding this issue. Please help.

Thanks and Regards,
Manoj
Shalom Manoj,

You need to gain console access via the blade systems iLo card.

Then see /var/log/messages for information on this error.

SEP

The prompt for the username is immediate or there is a long delay also?

You don't get the password prompt because it appears to be hang, or you get the connection closed?

I saw similar problems when the pam configuration was incorrect.

Also, check your DNS configuration. Are you using local accounts or LDAP/NIS accounts?

When this happened to me I had to move the users home directory ad create a new one because something got corrupted in the startup process for that user.

Is this happening for all users?

Hi Friends,

Thanks for the response.

Steven,
/var/log/messages not showing anything.

Ivan,
>>The prompt for the username is immediate or there is a long delay also?
The prompt for username is immediate, after entering username and enter there in no response at all.

If it is a pam configuration then the error should be there always. But after restarting login went fine.

There is no DNS configured and it is a local account.

Santhosh,
I am not getting prompt for password.

Glenn,
This happening to all the users including root. After restart it is responded properly.

Thanks and Regards,
Manoj K
