can't boot redhat linux from floppy disk

Hi All,

My redhat linux 7.2 is running on a Compaq server. I use the below command to create a bootable floppy disk:
# mkbootdisk `uname -r`
But the server can't boot from this floppy disk.

When I boot from floppy disk, The following prompt display:
--------------
Press (or wait 10 seconds) to boot your Red Hat Linux system from
/dev/cciss/c0d0p3. You may override the default linux kernel parameters by typing
"linux ", followed by if you like.
boot:
-----------------
I can't boot the machine after press key.

Anyone here can give me a hand ?

Hi,

Check if under /usr/lib/modules exists a directory which name is the output from uname -r.

Try to make the boot disk typing directly the kernel version no the command uname -r.

Hello!

Try to run the mkbootdisk
Check the full name in /usr/src
or in the /boot/vmlinux-
That should work

Thanks for your input. I am sure the 'kernel version' parameter is correct when running mkbootdisk command.

What actually happens when you press ?

Incidentally, you shouldn't need to type 'linux', you should just be able to press 'return'.

Hi,

When I press after the prompt, The system tell me 'boot failed, Pls. change a disk'.

My server is using RAID disks. I don't know how to make a bootable floppy disk without using mkbootdisk command.

Hi,

If you have the installation disks you
can run them choose the update option
don't do any changes so it would do nothing
then he will ask you to create a discket
if i remember wright.
