If you are using Red Hat it is a very straight forward installation for a laptop (a selection in the install). For the dual boot scenario you can reference the following web site:

http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-7.2-Manual/install-guide/ch-dualboot.html

I currently have a laptop setup with Windows 2000 and Red Hat 7.3 using lilo as the boot loader.

Ted,
What I would do is install your Windows partition first then install Linux with the LILO boot loader you should have NO problems with dual booting. Here's a link on installation of Linux on a laptop http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Laptop-HOWTO.html Hope this helpa.
