Keyboard and mouse are not working on Scientific linux 6 GUI

I am using Scientific linux 6 ,
I boot to the cli and type
#startx
The GUI starts but the keyboard and mouse are not working .
Every thing was working well 2 days ago and then I switched off the PC .
When I tried to switch on the PC today , I found the keyboard was working only on the cli mode but neither the keyboard nor the mouse are working on the GUI mode .
Any suggestions on how to get everything working back ?

What model HP PC/laptop do you have?
