I've always had trouble setting up Samba and swat... but when I installed Red Hat 9 samba was almost as easy (almost) as Windoz. i'd highly recommend. It only took me 2 minutes from start to sharing files.... very easy

Ok,
I appreciate all your help.

I vi'd /etc/xinetd.dswat and changed disable = no.

I restarted the services 'service xinetd restart...OK

Now I still can not connect to http://mullet.ihs-inc.com:901 to use swat.

I started /usr/sbin/swat but I am still not able to connect.
First place I'd check is /etc/sysconfig/iptables

See if port 901 is blocked. Same basic idea with ipchains if in use.

If you suspect the firewall here is a test.

service iptables stop

Test the link.

If it works, you know its a firewall problem.

SEP

/usr/sbin/swat should not be started, because the swat program is launched by xinet deamon when you connected with your browser.

Are you sure there aren't firewall limitations to reach that address at port 901? try connecting with a browser running directly on the linux-samba server. You can use lynx:

$ lynx http://localhost:901

I made exactly the same steps I suggested you an my Redhat 7.3 machine. I works well. Maybe something changed with new version of samba. The /usr/share/swat contains the samba documentation (in RH7.3); maybe it could be useful.

hth
Claudio
