Problems with activating the trial license

Hi!

I've problems with:

"3. Open a new browser window and browse to the HP Control Tower License Key Manager portal by browsing to https://www.hp.com/go/controltower and clicking on the link entitled HP Control Tower License Key Manager portal."

When accessing this link from Germany, I do not see any "HP Control Tower License Key Manager portal" (see attached screenshot).

Is this link not active yet? How to activate the trial?

The recently released ICE-Linux or previous version ICLE ?

Hi Robert,

I would like to activate the trial license for ICE-Linux which was released on 03/31/08.

I got a license key via https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/try.do?productNumber=HPICEVAL

But after installing the image and accessing the control tower the first time I'm directed to

https://www.hp.com/go/controltower

where I should find a link titled "HP Control Tower License Key Manager portal".

But I can't find such a link there.

Where to go next? ;-)

Hello Christian,

Do you know what ISO you downloaded; was it the ICE-Linux ISO or the ICLE ISO?

ICE-Linux is based on SIM; not Control Tower.

Did you perform the installaion on a system with SIM already installed?

Please try again using the following procedure and let us know how you make out:

â ¢ Goto http://www.hp.com/go/ice-linux

â ¢ Click on "Free trial" which will take you to the evaluation URL you've mentioned, https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/try.do?productNumber=HPICEVAL

â ¢ Select "Insight Control Environment for Linux" in the "Software specification" selection box

â ¢ Fill out the required information on the web form and click "Next"

â ¢ You will then be taken to a page where you can download the ICE-Linux software as well as an evaluation key

Hi Christopher,

the first time I choose the "Insight Control Environment" I got ct-hp-1.6.0-917-hpdl.iso

Installation of that iso needs a bare metal install - which I performed and ended in the above dialog.

I just did a rerun. Now I got icelx-v2.00.iso in return.

Will try that tomorrow when I'm back at work and report whether the key worked.

You should be in much better shape now that you have the correct ISO for ICE-Linux.

Just so that you are aware, the ICE-Linux documentaion did not ship on the ISO; there is just a pointer to it in the DocReadThisFirst file.

You'll need to refer to the ICE-Linux Doc set during the installation, so to save you some time, here is how to get to the documentation:

Obtaining ICE-Linux Documentation From the World Wide Web:

To make the most up-to-date ICE-Linux user documentation available to you whenever you
need it, the ICE-Linux documentation set for this release is available for you to view or download from the World Wide Web.

HP Technical Documentation Website
Visit the HP Technical Documentation website often to see if updates to the ICE-Linux
documentation set or additional information about ICE-Linux has been published.

Follow this procedure to obtain the ICE-Linux documentation set:

1. Open a web browser to the following web address: http://www.docs.hp.com
2. Scroll to the Linux category.
3. Click Red Hat Linux or SUSE Linux.
4. Click HP Insight Control Environment for Linux (ICE-Linux).

icelx-v2.00.iso worked much better. Looks more like the demo system one of your collegues showed us in Barcelona (HP Technology@Work 2008). ;-)

I successfully installed the software and running now through the configuration process.

So my problem should be solved by now.
