Hi!
i just installed Novell OES2-SP2(SLES10-SP3) on a Proliant DL360 G7. It is two SAS-disks in RAID1 and two LUNs on this disk array.

I want some sort of warning about disk-failure and other problems. I want these warnings to be sent on e-mail.

Can this be done in Server Insight Manager or is there other software that is recommended?
Hi Simonsen

This is what I was able to find related to SIM

HP SIM supports this feature of Fault management and Event handling

HP SIM Feature
Fault management and event handling

Provides proactive notification of actual or impending component failure alerts. Automatic Event Handling allows users to configure policies to execute scripts, forward events, and to notify appropriate users of failures via e-mail, pager, or SMS gateway.

Regards
Jayakrishnan G Naik

You need to install the ProLiant Support Pack (PSP) on your server:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/psp/index.html

The PSP can then send events to HP SIM so you get centralized monitoring of all your servers.

See also 'Managing ProLiant servers with Linux' for more background info:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00223285/c00223285.pdf

Hi!
I've just downloaded and installed PSP.
HP Smart Array driver refused to install because it didn't support the running Kernel :-o

So my next question is how i get Insight Manager to work. PSP install the Agent, but i guess then Insight Manager is an stand-alone Client that i need to install on a local workstation. Does this come with the server, is download-able or must i buy it as option?

Systems Insight Manager (SIM): http://hp.com/go/hpsim

If you only have one or two servers, I would recommend using only the PSP. The installed agents send a email to root in case of a failure.

Ok!
I have one server so then i maybe don't need SIM.

Do you know how to set up such e-mail-warnings?

Check out 'trapemail' in /opt/hp/hp-snmp-agents/cma.conf. It should already be set up to send a mail to root.

See also chapter 3-1 'Configuration files' in the HOWTO 'Managing ProLiant servers with Linux':
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00223285/c00223285.pdf#page=16

If you need to forward your root mails to somewhere else, you can add a alias to /etc/postfix/virtual.
