hi

I've checked a PC using sysinfo from linux Live CD and I'm getting this result:

Processor (CPU): Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.06GHz
Speed: 3,055.15 MHz
Cores: 2

Means 2 Cores -> Core Duo CPU?

Please show the output of "cat /proc/cpuinfo" and we'll see.

Normally Linux identifies Core Duo CPUs with their proper name, for example in this laptop:

# grep "model name" /proc/cpuinfo
model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8600 @ 2.40GHz
model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8600 @ 2.40GHz

(two lines because of two cores)

But if your Live CD uses an old kernel version, it might not include the correct names for all the modern processor models.

To answer this question, provide the output of "#cat /proc/cpuinfo".
The fields of intrest would be the processor and the model.

You can get the number of processors with the following command -
#cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep processor

Knowing which live linux distro you are using would be helpful.

I believe this is a dual core CPU.

I believe you should try a more up to date distribution.
