Red Hat Virtualization????

hi guys
right now I support Vmware as virtualization platform but on this comparison chart make me think about Vmware going down I mean Red Hat has the same features and it is cheaper...

I really would like to know
who has used it?
is that cheap as they say or promote?
any real experiences on this Red Hat Virtualization?

Shalom,

I use CentOS virtualization, which is RH.

I've built clusters in there, DR systems, development systems, upgrade testing systems.

What I like about it is the ability to move a system around as a single file.

It is a solid alternative to vmware and has a lower cost of ownership, especially if you go the CentOS route.

yeah I was thinking to start consulting on CentOS but I wanted to know is it the same as Red Hat? I mean the same stuff? if yes how Red Hat competes with CentOS if the last one is free?

also Steven to start consulting I have to learn any good resource to start with?

hi,

CentOS is RedHat Enterprise without the trade mark / copyright.

diff :

1) CentOS build from the Source RPM of RHEL (from redhat)
2) RHEL get faster update then CentOS because, CentOS need to wait to get the source rpm from the RHEL repository (sometime centOS community come with their own patches, but there is very small delay when the Redhat Update)
3) CentOS free version of RHEL ( which means there is no license fee)

Hi Karlo,

Yes, CentOS is the free variant of the RHEL.
It is very similar to that of RHEL but as its free there wont be any official support.
