Hi,
You can install 32 bit operating systems in Xion based servers .

But this 32 Bit operating system will only support 4GB memory (theoretically, actual support from 2.8GB to 3.2 GB)

Please find the following link to verify Linux support.

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/hplinuxcert.html

You cannot see RHAS in the list, since HP is testing only Enterprise server versions on their servers.
I hope this will support RHAS also. (version specific)
thanks for your suppport

but reagding the Max Memory size

Theoretically i can have 64 GB of memory on Linux 32 bit systems. But in this case we will have to upgrade the RH Kernel to support "high memory" which allow additional physical memory (more than 4GB) to be mapped.

do you have any idea if thier is any success story about it.
i will use RHEL 4 Update 8 32bit
thanks

You can use hugemem kernel for high memory system.

But fact is that, 64-bit OS is more robust than 32-bit OS in case if the server is used for Oracle server.

Due to some application incompatibility with 64bit OS, we have had to install several 32bit OS environment on 64bit X86 hardware. We have not encountered any functionality problems.

Cheers.

Shalom,

You are in a more flexible situation if you install the 64 bit OS. Almost every major application is supported.

But if you install a 32 bit RHEL, there are no driver impacts or any realistic memory limits to worry about. 16 GB of ram is probably the top practical limit.

If you need more, go 64 bit.

SEP

Shalom,

64 bit OS has excellent 32 bit emulation. I really think you should try it out in the lab.

SEP
