What HA cluster software is recommended to run on Linux?

As read on the forum, HP MC/SG isn't really up to the HPUX level yet on Linux.

RHEL Cluster Manager isn't that sweet either..

What i'm really looking for is a failover cluster for a 2 node cluster, for either redhat 7.3 or RHEL.

What's the best in store, IBM ?, SGI ?
Any hints/suggestions ?

Regards,
Johan

Alexandr, we're speaking about HA, not HPC clusters...

In fact, there are many HA clusters for linux

- HP Serviceguard
- Steeleye LifeKeeper (http://www.steeleye.com)
- Stonebeat cluster (http://www.stonesoft.com)
- High-Availability Linux Project (free) (http://linux-ha.org/) and few more opensource projects (in fact, most of commercial solution are based on these projects)
- Veritas Cluster Server
- and more

Unfortunately, I don't know sites with full overview/rating of HA cluster solutions for linux, you can see some ino on http://lcic.org/ha.html .

A specific note regading VCS on Linux.

Sure VCS is a great product; however, it will only work with RedHat-7.2 or RHAS 2.1 due to a limitation on kernel versions. If you're going to use any RH release newer than these or even a kernel newer than these you'll be in trouble, since Veritas does not support any other kernel version earlier than 2.4.9.

Perhaps SGI Failsafe is a good place to start, as it's dostribution and kernel-agnostic and also provides plugins for many "standard" Linux applications. The website is http://oss.sgi.com/projects/failsafe/.

HTH
Paulo Fessel

http://www.linuxvirtualserver.org/

This product (released under GNU GPL) provides highly available services for any daemons and server nodes.

The LVS handles connections from clients and passes them on the the real servers using different metrics.

Regards,
Sergejs
