Virtualization Pricing trends

Hey Folks, I was wondering, in terms of pricing of various virtualization offering, have you seen any visible trends. I guess pricing may be coming down from every vendor including VMWare - any thoughts - Thanks for helping us

Shalom,

VMware is under price and competitive pressure from Microsoft, which is trying to buy the market with an inferior product and superior financial resources.

This is pushing prices down.

I've done reasonably well with the xen server that ships free in Red Hat. I can do many flavors of Linux and even Windows.

So unless you need world class support, free is an option in this field.

with redhat (or most other linux versions) you get your virtualization for free, either as XEN, KVM or whatever else is available (but those 2 are most frequent).

Yes, i agree with you guys, Directly answering your question john, yes i do think that price will go down from vmware but can't guess up to what limit,(currently vmware solution will cost around US$6000 and citrix Xen will cost you US$2000)due to citrix is also coming up in the market. Also xen is also available not only redhat, even suse,Deb also have xen built in now. but the bare metal solution war will remain among citrix - VMware - MicroSoft.
