Try with the option 'noauth' in the file options in /etc/ppp.

In early versions of pppd daemon is not necesary this option, but in RedHat 6.1, this option is necesary to connect.

-----
Frank.

I am facing a problem when setting up a Dial-up connection to my ISP over ISDN Modem on Redhat Linux 6.1 system.

I have tried to configure this using PPP tools such as minicom, rp3, dip, chat, linuconf and wvdial.

Using all this programs i could make a ppp connection with my ISP and it get struck during connecting.

While using, rp3 it doest not dials at all and if i use a option of Debug in the same, it dials but it is not making a PPP connection and throwing me junk characters.

While using wvdial, it dials and does not make a PPP connection and giving the junk characters.

While using minicom, it is also same , i am able to dial and getting connected but not making a PPP connection and junk characters.

If i use dip, i am not getting any response and keep redialing .I could see this from the Modem Leds.

If i use linuxconf to make a ppp connection, it dials and gets connected and says "Peer refused to Authenticate and disconnected".I feel , this is the one atleast gives me some info.

So, if you tell me the step by step procedure to do this PPP dial-out on linux using ISdn External modem.

I would really appreciate the response.

Thanks and expecting the reply soon,

Gopinath.B
Sys.Admin
(bgopi@hclt.com)
HCL Technologies India Ltd

believe it or not, it is probably your modem speed that is causing your failures. lower the speed and try wvdial..it works great.
