Has anyone experience running SLES 10 or Fedora on a Proliant 3000? Is it running or should I consider installing it on another hardware? Server is a Pentium II 333 MHz with 576 MB RAM, Smart Array 2DH Controller with 54 GB harddisks.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards, Klaus

You would need a slightly older release of a Linux OS to run on this server due to it's hardware configuration.

Ideally, for best results and performance, I would recommend Red Hat Linux 6.1/6.2/7.0 or SUSE Linux 6.3/7.0. The advantage is, not only will these run better on the ProLiant 3000 server, you would also get the required drivers and management software.

Here's what Novell recommend:
http://www.novell.com/products/server/sysreqs.html

Shttp://www.novell.com/products/server/sysreqs.html

PS: Although Novells' hardware recommendations seem to match the hardware on the server, the performance may not be the best you can get out of the server.

Maybe a bad answer for you but... Time to let this server die... You will have more costs maintaining this server than buying a new one.
