Hi,

I am about to purchase an HP proliant DL385G2 and Suse Linux enterprise server (SLES). I would like to know if any problems have been reported during installation, booting or shutdowns.
I noticed that some Suse linux versions such as 10.1 can not produce a crash dump, Can SLES produce a dump if the system crashes?

Thanks for any info.

Narimane

Shalom Narimane,

A lot of the problems I see here are when peole don't RTFM. Choose HP utilities certified for your OS.

Being not able to produce a dump is a bug and should be corrected in patches/system updates.

SEP
That's right. If you install an operating system that is indicated as support & moreover as tested by HP, you should not have any problems.

However, there is no guarantee that you will not have any issues, because as you know it also depends on the kind of extra applications or functionality you would like from the server.

A standard SLES 10 install on DL385 G2 can be trouble free. The compatibility matrix will indicate the supported operating systems. Moreover, the latest firmware & PSPs should be installed on the server to ensure optimal performance & health status reporting.

Linux Support Matrix:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/hpLinuxcert-novell.html
