I've googled and can't seem to find a solution. I recently bought a HP/Compaq nw9440 laptop. I cannot see or load the drivers for the card reader. Can anyone point me in the right direction? This seems to be the only item on the laptop not working.

I'm currently running SUSE 10.2 with Kernel 2.6.18.

TIA!

I would imagine it would be better. As it is I was given this laptop and I have it. It did not say that linux was "NOT" certified. I did install everything without a problem, including the fingerprint reader - whatever that is worth.

Any other ideas?
You should start by getting lspci output to find what kind of device you have. I took a short cut and googled for nw9440 and lspci.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.17/+bug/53060/comments/4 has lspci output that shows that at least some nw9440 laptops have this card reader-
Mass storage controller: Texas Instruments Unknown device 803b
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Unknown device 309f

That reader might work with the "tifm*" modules as described at http://news.softpedia.com/news/Texas-Instruments-5-in-1-Card-Reader-under-Ubuntu-Edgy-43688.shtml . The latest version of that driver is available from http://developer.berlios.de/projects/tifmxx/ .

Thank you. That site is helpful. I will try it this afternoon.

Now on to the fingerprint reader. That "should" be easy, but since I can't even get into the BIOS, I can't see what type of reader it is. I think it might be AuthenTec, but I'm not sure.
