Hello kkumar!

I have a HP pavilion ze4907 with dual boot, Windows XP Home (oem) and Fedora Core 6 with 2 kernel version.

All the hardware work ok, except the volume buttons, but i can configure the volume via kde.
The modem is configured too.

I don't know what is the "best" for linux, but i know of the last kernel version see most hardware.

Regards

Shalom,

In the past based on forums experience the entry level HP laptops were many times unsuitable for Linux due to a lack of driver support.

Those that have had the most success have chosen models that HP certifies with Linux.

SEP

I have had tryed and configured many laptops to run some version of linux, the best advice I can give is to get a live cd preferably from the distribution you plan to use and to try this before you buy the hardware you will find many live cd at http://distrowatch.com/

an other way to find the right hardware is to do a sezrch on the linux distribution site you plan on using, search and try find the "hal" hardware list for laptops

I am now answering this using fedora core 6 on a Aspire 5630... but I still have to investigate and get the internal wifi working on this laptop... I will get it to work, in the mean while I use a pcmcia wifi card ... the rest to my knowledge is working.

Jean-Pierre Huc
