Alpha977,

I tried FC6 ZOD-LiveCD. Nada! I get to a prompt,"Uncomppressing Linux....Ok, booting kernel". Prompt just sits there flashing.

I'll try Ubuntu and other distros. I also looked at the how-to-linux site you suggested.

I teach networking and part of the class requires intro to Linux.
I downloaded FC6 i386 (dvd-iso) and tried to install on a dc5700. Linux detects the duo-core cpus but when it checks the PCI bridge the install stops. No errs nor is the system frozen. The install just stops at a certain point.

Can anyone tell me if installing any Linux distro on a dc5700 possible?

Hello Milt!

Try with another linux distro. I advice to try with a "LiveCD" first of install, to check all the hardware.

Also, check here:
http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Hardware-HOWTO/

Regards!

For what it's worth, I'm having the same trouble. Tried FC5 then FC6. No luck. Have 3 of these that I need to get Fedora onto.

My last message before install freezes is:

ACPI: Assume root bridge [\_SB_.PCI0] bus is 0

Terry,

If you start the install with "linux acpi=off", you'll get further down the road. But I get a err msg stating "Video input out of range"???

I've downloaded Ubuntu desktop 6.10 and I have Xandros 4.0. I'll post my results.
