      <title>waiting for transaction lock error</title>

      <description>while uninstalling rpm on redhat 4.0, I am getting following warning and after this warning command gets hang and does nothing.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;warning: waiting for transaction lock on /var/lock/rpm/transaction&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;when I forcefully come out from command execution, it gives following error.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;error: can't create transaction lock on /var/lock/rpm/transaction&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Any idea how to overcome this?</description>

      <description>Shalom,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;It would be helpful to know what rpm you are uninstalling.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Try rebooting the system, running updatedb and trying again.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;You have some kind of problem with the rpm database and may be forced to rebuild it. There is a command on the rpm man page for this.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;SEP</description>
