Is the user's profile executed when issuing an rsh command ? Something fishy inthere maybe ?

What happens when this particular user tries to log in to this machine ?

Just a hunch..

Cheers,
Wout

Hi,
when using a simple rsh command for a specific user (for instance : rsh host ls), the command hangs for something like one minute and then execute.
Any idea where the pb can come from ?

Shalom,

Almost always name resolution.

Put an entry for the target and source in /etc/hosts and that should speed up the execution nicely.

SEP

Thanks for the reply
But the hostname is already available in /etc/hosts
A ping is immediate.
It's a very strange behaviour because it only occurs with a specific user.

Silly question(s):

What happens when the same user tries to get into the remote system via SSH?

Further more, why would you still be using RSH for anything?
