cpuspeed is just for power saving on laptops when CPU isn't busy. You don't need it on servers.
BTW, there are a few others services, that I suggest to "check off" on servers - like pcmcia, apmd and more.

RHEL 4 OS comes with a daemon called "cpuspeed" and description given below is what i found from internet. My question is - keeping this daemon alive in RHEL 4 installed on a Proliant DL360/380 G4 adds any value or not?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
RHEL daemon name: cpuspeed
Summary: CPU Frequency adjusting daemon.
Description: cpuspeed is a daemon that dynamically changes the speed of your processor(s) depending upon its current workload if it is capable (needs Intel Speedstep, AMD PowerNow!, or similar support).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Shalom,

I've noticed no difference whether its running or not. Not on high load systems, not on low load systems.

I'd say turning it off will not hurt at all.

SEP

Thanks.

I was googling little on this & found that this daemon may add value on a notebook. However I wonder who is going to install RHEL on a laptop.

Shalom,

On a laptop, especially with vmware it may be advisable to use it.

Often with vmware there are cpu speed reporting issues that this daemon can help with.

SEP
