    <description>Hi nick!&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;There is a verification script InstallPrep.sh available which may be downloaded from metalink and run prior to the installation of Oracle 9i database release 2.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;This script verifies that the system is configured correctly according to the Installation Guide. The output of the script will report any further tasks that need to be performed before successfully installing Oracle 9.x DataServer (RDBMS). This script performs the following verifications:-&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;ORACLE_HOME Directory Verification &lt;BR /&gt;UNIX User/umask Verification &lt;BR /&gt;UNIX Group Verification &lt;BR /&gt;Memory/Swap Verification &lt;BR /&gt;TMP Space Verification &lt;BR /&gt;Real Application Cluster Option Verification &lt;BR /&gt;Unix Kernel Verification &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I would suggest that you go through this step before trying the installation.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;hope this helps!&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;kind regards&lt;BR /&gt;yogeeraj</description>

      <description>Thanks. &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I did run export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1 but that did not work. The current kernel version am running is  2.4.21-37 Elsmp.       <description>I found this on the Internet, you may try that:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;The installation problem is a known bug.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Apply Oracle patch 3006854 before installing.</description>
