      <description>hi all,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;i am unable to connect to the unixmachine( HP UX 11.31_ic135) , but from that machine  iam able to connect to the other machine. &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I tried insf -e also , i tried nfs.server,nfs.client stop and start.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;error will be for rlogin is &lt;BR /&gt;rcmd_af: connect:hostname:connection refused&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;error while i do telent &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;could not open a connection to a hostname port23: connection failed&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>Is telnet service running on hp-ux machine?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;From HP-UX Machine:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;1) Check /etc/inetd.conf file shell entry in that.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;shell        stream tcp nowait root /usr/lbin/remshd   remshd&lt;BR /&gt;kshell stream tcp nowait root /usr/lbin/remshd remshd -K&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;has to be there to get r* commands execution&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;2) For telnet problem:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Check /etc/inetd.conf file for,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;telnet       stream tcp nowait root /usr/lbin/telnetd  telnetd&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;# netstat -na | grep -E '23.*LISTEN'&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;to has LISTEN status. &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Try this!&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;--&lt;BR /&gt;Muthu</description>

      <description>i have tried in etc/inetd.conf and it was commented and i removed the coment , but still it is not working, &lt;BR /&gt; i tried rlogin localhost, it says connestion failed, but from that box, ican able to rlogin .</description>

      <description>i have tried in etc/inetd.conf and it was commented and i removed the coment , but still it is not working,&lt;BR /&gt;&amp;gt;&amp;gt;&amp;gt;&amp;gt;&amp;gt;&amp;gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;After that do as,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;# inetd -c&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;inetd has to be reconfigured.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;i tried rlogin localhost, it says connestion failed, but from that box, ican able to rlogin .&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&amp;gt;&amp;gt;&amp;gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If it is not working after that check /etc/services file for,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;exec         512/tcp                 # remote execution, passwd required&lt;BR /&gt;login        513/tcp                 # remote login&lt;BR /&gt;shell        514/tcp  cmd            # remote command, no passwd used&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;contents.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;It will surely work.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;--&lt;BR /&gt;Muthu</description>

      <description>thanks for the reply &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;i tried inetd -c , there was no further display it returned to the prompt&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I had check etc/servives following exec 512/tcp login 513/tcp shell 514/tcp is there&lt;BR /&gt;it will be greatful if u can help resolving the issue</description>

      <description>After changing the inetd.conf you need to &lt;BR /&gt;send inetd a HUP signal.  &lt;BR /&gt;Usually 'killall -HUP inetd' will do the &lt;BR /&gt;trick.&lt;BR /&gt;Check telnetd is listing with &lt;BR /&gt;'netstat -lnt | grep 23', if not you can't&lt;BR /&gt;connect.&lt;BR /&gt;Also check /etc/hosts.allow and&lt;BR /&gt;/etc/hosts.deny.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Better yet, abandon telent, rlogin, and, rsh.&lt;BR /&gt;Use ssh instead, it is much more secure.&lt;BR /&gt;By default most distributions disable &lt;BR /&gt;telnet, rlogin, rsh, et al for a good reason.&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>Hello,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;have you change disable = yes &lt;BR /&gt;to disable = no&lt;BR /&gt;in /etc/xinetd.d/rlogin ?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;(maybe kill -HUP on inetd as instructed above)&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Jean-Yves Picard&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Linux is not unix, some old trick don't work.</description>

      <description>Can you ssh to the HPUX server?&lt;BR /&gt;I'm not sure of Hp-UX's policy, but telnet may be off by default because it is not secure enough (cleartext passwords over the network).&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;You may also try telnet from HP-UX server to itself as a test. &lt;BR /&gt;Check /etc/hosts.allow / deny.&lt;BR /&gt;Any messages in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;JP.</description>

      <description>there is no directory called etc/hosts.allow&lt;BR /&gt;, now there is a turning point , i can able to rlogin , but it say login incorrect, when i type 'root' and it displays connection to the host lost.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;</description>
