for a security event,
we would like to demonstrate john the ripper.

knows someone howto write found passwords
from the shadow file to a text file ?

Chris,

Run john to crack the passwords.
Then in the same directory run john as 'john -show passwdfile' which will show u the cracked passwords. u can redirect the output of this to a seperate file as 'john -show passwdfile > cracks.txt' .
