HP Compaq nx9600 running linux

I would like to take advantage of the excellent 1680 x 1050 flat panel screen on the computer while running linux. However, I can't see how to do this. Has anyone done this? How?

I can make it work, but only at some low resolution default setting.

If the maker of the monitor, which is probably not Compaq has a linux driver, you can make it work. Otherwise, pick a different monitor that has penguin certification.

Replying to both posts: Perhaps I was not clear - the nx9600 is a laptop. It may be true that Compaq does not make the actual LCD, but it's a sure bet that even if I can figure out who did they won't offer any help. A better shot would be the maker of the video card integrated into the notebook, but ATI says the hardware is customized for HP/Compaq and they won't talk about drivers.

- I am currently running Mandrake 10.1, which works fine except for the video issue. I would be willing to switch to a different distribution, however, if it would help.

Use drakconf to verify the video adapter and monitor type that is configured. If you cannot find the exact model, try selecting a generic model with that supports the resolution that you want to use.

I have a similar laptop (Presario V2000) wide screen and installed FC Core 4. It works fine without any issues. Just select default display setting while installing Linux. It should help.

I have a nx9600 and I installed FC4 and picked a generic LCD monitor with a 1680x1050
It worked great.

If you got passed the wireless network and sound card drive issues I would like to know how
