I have a computer that i have decided to add a new hard drive as the only hard drive in the machine. It is a 120GB Maxtar and I want to install Linux only onto it. after i plug it in, everything seems to work fine, i will put the cd in and it will run through the whole Linux install cycle, but after i restart it will not work at all. a friend of mine told me i might have to manually change the hard drive information as far as sectors and stuff like that in the bios, but i am not to sure how to go about doing that. am i on the right track or not? thanks in advance.

Bios:
Go to HDD location nad set Auto for your.
Do not set manula any value.
If your disk and bios are good they will work.

Take one Knopix CD live or boot from install CD and try to mount your DISK.

Or you may have problem with boot manager.
Install reinstall Grub or Lilo.

Hi Dan,

It seems a hardware problem. Did your motherboard support 120G harddisk? Did your BIOS setting correctly?

NiCK

Hi Dan,

Which distro are you using? Old version did not support SATA. You should loading driver before you install.
SATA controller vender should provide driver for linux. You should make a SATA controller driver disk for linux installation.
When you boot from linux install cd ,type "linux dd" for REDHAT linux or press F6 for SUSE linux to loading SATA contorller driver from driver disk.

NiCK
