Have ever somebody install Linux on nc8000 notebook? For example, on Fujitsu-Siemens site there is a link for Linux Support on notebooks. And you can easyly find info about this item. Why HP has none of this?

HP has simply not decided to support Linux on laptops as others have. That's probably a business decision, I don't know, I don't work there.

HP is very responsive to its customer base. If they keep calling, emailing and writing asking for Linux support on the laptop line, future offerings will support Linux.

If you want smooth operation and installation, find a laptop with the penguin logo.

SEP

> Have ever somebody install Linux on nc8000 notebook?

Yes! The nc8000 is certified for Red Hat and SuSE http://h10018.www1.hp.com/wwsolutions/linux/products/clients/nc8000-cert.html .

With the latest BIOS, Linux kernel, and XFree86 4.4, pretty much everything works and it works well (I am typing this on my primary work machine, an nc8000 running Debian with Gnome 2.6).

For detailed technical information, the definitive sites are Snigel Wiki http://snigel.dnsalias.net/snigelwiki/Gentoo_20Linux_20on_20HP_20Compaq_20nc8000 and fobie.net http://fobie.net/nc8000/ .

Have fun,

Paul
