I have a ze4145, and I've had the same problem installing Gentoo Linux after compiling the kernel. I've been able to disable the pcmcia checking, and have gotten as far as setting up Xfree. Right now, I can live without pcmcia, but I can't get my display working. Would anybody be so kind as to e-mail me their /etc/X11/XF86Config file?

For some reason, when I run 'startx', my display just blanks out and the caps lock and scroll lock lights on my keyboard blink.

Thanks,

Tim
junk4magnet@hotmail.com

when trying to install either mandrake 9 or redhat8, I get a kernel panic at the same sport, when its trying to detect pcmcia cards.. im thinking its because its one of the newer models with a newer chipset than is supported, but I need a confirmation of it..

as far as i know, mandrake always had problems with pcmcia cards during the install.
just leave you pcmcia cards out during the install, and insert them when the install is complete and you are going to boot for the first time.

And the I do not know how to configure the X-window. Text mode works okey. But I could not boot into XP. when I run /sbin/lilo it said "partition entry not found". When I tried to install Grub /sbin/grub-install /dev/hda it said no bios something. I forgot.

Any ideas thanks.

I have the same problem, when I try to install Red Har 7.2, 7.3, 8.0. I noticed that when computer crashes while initializing PC Card, there is a message, part of which is "bank 3".One can see that under memory in sys info from 3DMark there are realy 3 banks memory recognized. Also SiSoft Sandra doesn't give any information about memory banks, but it says " Disabled host controllers are present. Check BIOS". Probably we have BIOS problem.

Mike, the freeze problem is really not "freeze". It's actually the keyboard not responding. To install the system, you should specify "nousb" as well as "nopcmcia".

Also, after you have installed the system, before booting into the system. You should add a kernel option "noisapnp".

BTW, I have installed Redhat 7.3 and I can use the touchpad, even the scroll bar is working perfectly. But after I upgraded it to Redhat 8.0, the touchpad is still working but the scroll bar is not working any more. Anyone has any idea about that?

Also, I would like to try to add APM and PCMCIA support. Anyone could shine some information on that?

Thanks.
Do you all have O2Micro PCMCIA controller or problems are with
TI controller as well ???

I returned KA with O2Micro to store and ordered KB with TI.

To Ken Giusti: I can not
reply to your e-mail as my
e-mail to you
gets bounced with an error.
So if you want a reply - you need to give another e-mail address.

Short reply is: no,
there was no help from HP
at all. This quite unpleasant
as we want just a little - just PCMCIA working as
everything else does work.
