And yes for Hardware RAID you need RAID controller card installed in your rx2600.

Regards,

Your Engish is fine.

I have not done this on an rx class server. But recently I did try it on a Intel/Dell server. The minimum number of disks for striping is 3.

If you want any of reliability or performance, you need 5.

These findings may or not apply but the disk druid will let you know during installation.

SEP

Just wondering, are you planning on doing Hardware RAID, or software RAID?

If it's Hardware RAID, there's absolutely nothing stopping you from doing RAID5.

If it's software RAID, you can do it, it's just a little trickier.

Depending on how far you want to go with your software RAID volumes depends on how far you need to go. If you want all file systems to be on a software-RAID volume, it's probably easier to re-install the OS and use the linux distribution's partitioning tools (RH's DiskDruid for example).

Any modern distribution of Linux should support the 5300 series of smart-array controllers. In fact, anything with a 2.4 series kernel should support it!

Now, the only thing I can think of which would have disparaging information about this controller in this series of machine is whether it is 'supported' or 'certified' by HP in that environment!

Now, if we look at the certification matricies for that series of server, (at http://h10018.www1.hp.com/wwsolutions/linux/products/servers/itanium-cert-matrix.html ), you can see that the machine is ceritifed for both RH and Suse enterprise products.

Where did you see that the controller wasn't supported under Linux?
