Hi Guys,

I have a dx2000/d325 with RH Lnx (Kernel 2.4.21-4EL) here. I'm not firm in Lnx. I've got these pc from a unknown customer as a used PC. After booting it request for a username an pwd which i don't know. Is there any std. login like admin or something else which I can try? Or any other idea (exclude reinst.) to go into the system.
Thx in advance

HRE

you may use several ways:

1) ask previous admin

2) try to boot machine into single-user mode:

during GRUB boot loader timeout, press "e", add " 1" to line started from "kernel", and press "b" for boot.
After you get command probmpt, you're able to set root's password by "passwd" command

3) if second way doesn't work [bevause GRUB password], you can boot from rescue CD/floppy, mount root partition from harddrive and change root password.
See for details:

http://cities.lk.net/lost_password.htm
http://www.webpronews.com/it/operatingsystems/wpn-22-20040209LostRootPasswordLinux.html
