Installing on a Proliant DL360 RH9

Hello, need help installing this on the DL360, cd-rom is not able to be recognize in the Rh install.

Heard that the DL's might turn the IDE CD-Rom into a scsi device and this might be the case. Maybe someone can offer a link to how to get the install started on this system.

Sorry its my first HP Server, I am more used to Dells ;)

If it's your first HP server, I'd start by using a version of RH that is certified for the hardware (RH8, one of the Enterprise editions).

RH9 has well known issuse with the CD-ROM on HP Proliant series of servers, amongst other hardware. There is a boot-diskette about with a fixed boot kernel that gets this workign however (if you search these forums, you'll find a few links).

Its important to get the disk array set up program for your server and set up any disk arrays. Failing that, the server should be fairly easy to set up.

Hardware support is better with newer distributions. If you like Red Hat, you will love Fedora Core 2. You should check your software application requirements first.

RH9 is at the end of its life cycle.

Hi,

Depending on the series of the DL360, there may be some pbs with CD-Rom drives. I remember a RHEL 2.1 install that took 15 min via network and... 2h30 via CD-Rom.

I would suggest first to update the server firmware (including iLO, Raid controller and BIOS).

Then, try installing with DMA disabled on CD-Rom. To do that, at first prompt type :

linux ide=nodma

If it doesn't work, try the bootnet method. The bootnet.img file located on your install CD does not contain the necessary driver. You will need to create the network modules floppy image and specify it by typing "linux dd" at first prompt.
