      <description>The modem in your laptop is most likely a winmodem, a sofware modem. It works great with windows, but is a pain in the butt to get working with linux (&lt;A href="http://www.linmodems.org" target="_blank"&gt;www.linmodems.org&lt;/A&gt; if you want to try). Do yourself a huge favour and buy a proper hardware pcmcia modem, but make sure it's on the supported list first. You will save yourself some hair pulling.</description>
