UNIX System Administration Handbook
by Nemeth and Snyder.

They've made a few different versions. Get whatever the latest one is.

And stuff from O'Reilly is generally good.

What is it you want to learn about linux? Like are you new to unix-ish things? If so, then the Nemeth and Snyder book is the place to start. If you're not new to unix-ish things, then everything you need to get started with linux is probably at http://www.linuxdoc.org/

another from O'Reilly AEleen Frisch Unix
System Administration. Compares and contrasts a number of poplular Unix systems as to sys admin. Very handy if you either have experience with something else already or have a multi vendor environment.

Red Hat Linux Bible Series by Chistoperh Negus

Got me through my first tough months running a NSP/webhosting business on Red Hat.

Its mostly generic and useful for other distributions.

The best book so far, beats the OReilly book. All in all "Linux Administration Handbook by Evi Nemeth, Snyder & Hein" is the most helpful tome on GNU/Linux.The complete OS is GNU/Linux, Linux is the kernel. Hth.

It depends what you are looking for too. You can't go wrong with O'reilly. A good General Linux SAG - "Essential System Administration"

We just had Guru labs come out and do
some in-house training and it came with a great set of documentation.

The class is called GL250 Linux System Administration and the notes which come with the class are priceless.

I asked if they are going to publish them and it sounds like they have had many requests and are considering it so inquire with them.

Get instructor Dax Kelson if you can!
