I got to see it over a friends shoulder at his house.

It LOOKED very slick, but It needs a bug fix or two. I'm still running gnome 1.4 on my HP-UX boxes and whatever came with Red Hat 9 and 7.3 on my Linux boxes.

SEP

I've been using KDE at work on my Red Hat 7.3 box and KDE on my Red Hat 9 box at home. Currently on my 9 box I'm running an Unreal Tournament 2003 dedicated server (game) and also a Ventrilo server (voice over IP) which are both free. Ventrilo can be found at http://www.ventrilo.com if anyone is interested

I never really liked gnome, I usually use blackbox or windowmaker if its on the system. I've never had someone explain the advantage of using such monolithic window managers over the simple interfaces available. Is there something I'm missing out on?

Dave

Personaly I use sawfish, because it is light and I have tryed older version of gnome and found it very ressource intensif the only reason I ask is because I intend to install this for someone who is very MS window's, I would have like on hand experience/comment's, but a good review also nice.

There is also a whole new install tool involved, guess I will try this out this week-end on one of my desktop.

J-P
I have install Gnome version 2.4 using Garnome on 1 of my desktop, and ran out of space so did a some backup/delete and had to restart a few times, but finally got his to installed.

Very slow on my desktop Pentium II 450, looks nice and does the job would have to use
this more intensively and for a longer time to give a valid opinion.

On the down side I got worried using the Garnome installation because this once set up goes to a lot of network sites during its compile/install to download it files ... this scrolled on my screen quite quickly I did not feel in control ... that is you have to put your trust in a lot different bites and pieces.

I know You also have to trust when you installed a distribution like RH etc, but in this case You trust that RH or other distributor (Suse, Mandrake etc) have checked out the included packages in there distribution and to notify you and rectify if something goes wrong.

The product still feels like still in development stage, still very nice !

But I will be conservative and install the gnome that come with RH 9.0 for my MS Windows
fan workstation, fell this more stable and safer.

Thanks for your previous input's.

P.S more reply's here are welcome but I will only doll out 0-3 points for futher replies

J-P
