ITRC characters [] appearing on posts

Hi everyone,

I have just a quick question, when reading through a lot of the forum posts, I frequently see these characters: []
Can anyone tell me what these characters translate to?

hi andy,

its the square brackets which are displayed as [ ]
i remember reading about it in one of the threads here.
i may be wrong!!!
