RHL8.0 to RHEL3 Migration - Where is PSP?

I currently have 5 ProLiant servers running RHL8.0 and PSP6.30. Since Red Hat is dropping support for RHL8.0 at the end of the year, I am now planning a migration to RHEL3, but I cannot seem to find a ProLiant support pack for it. Does one exist, do I need to use the one from RHL8, or do I just need to install certain parts? I mainly use the PSP for SNMP traps and monitoring via Insight Manager.

Last I checked there was no support pack for the Proliant server line for Red Hat Enterprise 3, since that product just recently came to market.

If the product you are looking for is not available on the Install CD's you are going to have to get the source or rpms' and install the seperately.

Go to hp.com/linux => at the right "What's New in Linux", you'll see that RHEL3 is going to be certified in dec 03.

The PSP for RHEL 3 is currently in final testing. It is to be posted to the web early next week unless a critical issue is found. We will also be providing an updated PSP for RH 8.0 that contains our latest drivers at the same time in case you need it until your migration is complete.

The release date for the RHEL3 PSP has been moved out to early to mid-January. We have found some last minute issues that deal with the Native Posix Thread Libraries (NPTL) where functions behave differently than with the Linux Thread libraries used in previous versions of Red Hat products. NPTL was added by Red Hat in RHEL3.

Several of our value-add software programs, including the health driver and agents make heavy use of threading, so were affected by the change in behavior. Since the problems found only occur intermittently, it was not root caused until the last couple of days.

Since we'd rather deliver high quality software that has been thoroughly tested than attempt to just meet a date, we have elected to delay the release to ensure proper testing of the changes made to alleviate the issues found.

Since the issues found do not affect any of the other distributions of Linux, the next version of the Linux PSPs for all other distributions are set to be released soon.

Since Red Hat is dropping support for RHL8 on December 31, and HP does not have a PSP for RHL9 or RHEL3, what can customers who want to use Red Hat products on ProLiant servers do? Either switch to another vendor's Linux distribution or switch to another hardware vendor, I guess?

For security updates on existing Red Hat 7.2-8.0 systems, I'll either build my own SRPMS or utilize Novell/Progeny's Red Hat support service here:

It's $5/month per server, or $2500/month for unlimited machines.

The HP agents seem to work best on RH 8.0, so the majority of my servers are running 8.0. New deployments will also be RH8.0 until RHEL 3.0 is more mature. Even after experimenting with RHEL 3.0, I'm not totally impressed....
