Hi,

/dev/hda represent the first IDE unit on the first IDE channel. So when I was trying to install, I had only the IDE CD connected to that channel. So the /dev/hda was actually the CD.

However, I'm gonna try to resolve my problem testing the smart 641 on another machine.

Hi,

I'm trying to install a gentoo linux using a Raid 5 on a smart 641, on a ML370R03.

But the installation CD is unable to load the cciss module. (gentoo 1.4 rc4)
- I tried with a RH 9.0, the cciss module got up, but then I had another issue with the system that was unable to find the CD on /dev/hda and I wasn't able to got further in the installation.
- I tried to compile the module on an other machine, copy it to a floppy, and load it from the console but I had full page of unresolved links.
- I don't have any partition on my raid.

Do I need to install my system with a RH8, using the provided drivers and then migrate to the release I need ?
Or is there a trick to load a working module on another release ?

Thanks

Hi,

On your rh9 install, CD is in /dev/cdrom, not /dev/hda (which is primary ide HD).

Maybe could you try this way...

hth

J
