I downloaded the correct rpm from the Broadcom site, this gets the NIC working, watch out for the Redhat update breaking it again,I had to do a --force rpm.
I have now discovered that the Intel 820801EB AC'97 audio is not yet supported on Redhat 9.
I tried downloading and installing from Intel.
The software seems to work, but no audio.
If you do sndconfig it confirms no support.
I am buying a supported pci card.

First place to check is Red Hat's HCL and make sure the hardware is supported. http://hardware.redhat.com/hcl/

If its not directly supported by RH, the Linux community will surely have support for it soon.

John
