Hi,

I'm looking for a Opensource System Network Monitoring Tool that works in a client/server fashion, where client collects sys/net information like memory/cpu/filesystem usage, then send these data to a centralized server.
Better if it's possible to write my own capturing filters using C/Perl/Python or the tool will provide its own scripting mechanism.

I actually looking for a open source replacement for OpenView Operation(ITO) but it doesn't have be that powerful and full-blown as OVO(ITO).

Anyone can recommend one?? Thanks in advance.

hi,
mrtg is your friend. it can capture any data over snmp and plot a graph for you. also you can use your customized scripts to collect data and pass it on to mrtg for graphing.

MRTG means the multi router traffic grapher and is more towards network monitoring though it can be customised to your wish.

http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/mrtg/

also check out RRD tool. a bit more powerful in data capture and graphic features.

http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/rrdtool/

hth
-balaji
