Hi,
I'm just testing the 2.4.19 kernel for dvd200e writer. Previous attempts with 2.4.18 kernel has (obviously) fail (the dvd writer is seen as a CD-RW unit) apparently becaus ethere is not ehci-usb support.
I have read on the linux-usb site that some kernel patches could be required. I wonder if someone has test those patches and if someone knows some modules ehci-usb code for 2.4.18 kernels.

Regards,
St+?phane

we are considering to buy a dvd200e to back up our huge data files in linux machines. I'm wondering if there is a dvd200e device driver for linux. The HP says that they don't have linux driver for dvd200e now. Is there anybody using the dvd200 in linux? In addition, I noticed that dvd200e uses a USB2.0. Does redhat 7.1 support it?
Thanks in advance.

It looks like a fairly simple feat. Linux supports both USB2.0 (see http://www.linux-usb.org/usb2.html) as well as DVD+RW burning (see http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/linux/DVD+RW/ ). You probably don't need a driver specific to the dvd200e. Just mount the file system and burn! (Once you are configured properly!)

good luck! -Paul

One of the links I posted is bad. I put the right bracket ')' in the URL. to fix, remove the bracket from the link after clicking, or click:

http://www.linux-usb.org/usb2.html

Thanks -Paul

Hi,

Latest official kernel 2.4.19 include USB 2.0 codes.
But I don't think RedHat will release 2.4.19 RPM for RH7.1.
So what you need is download source tar ball then create your own kernel.

Good luck
