One of my colleagues recently purchased an Omnibook xe4400 and wanted to install RH8.0 on it. However, when I try to boot the network install disk everything locks up on the first prompt (language selection). I've tried both graphical and text install just for a laugh, but it seems that either the keyboard is not recognized, or it freezes for some other reason.

Can anyone help?

Hi there,

There is a usb related issue at least with XE4500.

So you must specify "linux nousb idebus=66" when prompted to choose the install mode. (where you would normally press Enter).

With 7.3 at least, the ide bus speed can't be detected, that's why the idebus parameter was needed. I'm not sure about 8.0 but I used the parameters above on a 4500 and all worked fine.

See
http://www.net42.co.uk/linux8-on-xe4500.shtml
for a redhat 8 on a xe4500 install guide. (i imagine 4400 and 4500 are similar).

Cheers
c
