Hello Rick,

for running an Windows application locally on a Linux box i would reconmend VMWare.

If you plan to bring more Linux/Unix users to a Windows desktop consider Cytrix Metaframe.

We are using Metaframe with 35 concurrent users and serving about 100 Unix users this way. Metaframe is pretty good allthough not as reliable as UNIX.

Hope this helps

Regards Stefan

Hi all:

I am needing to run some WIN2k apps on RH7. (Be nice if I didn't have to, but that's a different story.)

I have been reading on some products that allow for that, example, WINE. What are the experiences? Good, bad, indifferent, etc...

Also heard about loading a citrix client on the linux and accessing through a citrix server. Not sure if I am describing it right.

Bottom line, I want off WIN2k. But I need to check Remedy tickets and such - what is the best way?

Many thanks!

Hi,

Have you tried Win4Lin (Windows for Linux)? I do not have any first-hand experience with this. The downside is that it only supports Win95 and Win98. However, the features are not bad and it comes cheap:

http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/reviews/2957/1/

There is also a pretty decent first-hand review between Wine, Win4Lin and VMWare:

http://www.linuxworld.com/linuxworld/lw-2000-10/lw-10-legacy.html

Hope this helps.
