Linux install to use LVM

Does anyone know of a version of Linux that can be installed and gives an option to include and use LVM as a default?

Really, I'm looking to install a version of Linux that will use LVM. Has anyone set this up and how dificult would it be? What versions of Linux would be best for this?

Denver,

Both Linux Mandrake 7.0 and RedHat 6.X include the RaidTools software which provide "LVM like" tools in the installation base.

I currently use all of these versions in a Telephone Company for their Billing system and ISP.

HP LVM is a propritary thing to HPUX (sorry). It's part of what you get by spending the bucks for HPUX. Most all of the major players in the unix market have their own propritary version for their own systems as well. Linux Raidtools are available but they are not in the same ball park when you compare functionality. The only possile way around this that I can think of would be to NFS mount file systems from an HPUX box.

I don't know about a "ready to use" distribution with LVM.
Nevertheless, there exists a linux version of LVM. See the LINUX-LVM pages:

According to the RPM Database (on rpmfind.net) I was able to locate the LVM Tools for the Suse 6.3 OS (you could probably install them on any RPM compatible Linux - at your own peril of course) at http://www.rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/suse/6.3/i386/suse/a1/lvm-0.8-11.i386.html

You can also download and compile the software from http://linux.msede.com/lvm/index.html#download - but this software is only for kernels 2.3.10 and above.

SUSE from 6.3 has LVM ready to use
from YAST. I had to do manual pvcreate though, otherwise fine, mirror and all.

I've got SuSE 6.3 or 6.4 (I don't remember). It does have LVM support. There is both a kernel module required and an RPM with the lvm tools. SuSE ships a version of the 2.2.x kernel that has a patch applied to give the lvm functionality. The 2.4.x kernels have LVM already applied.

I'm using the SuSE lvm rpm on RedHat 6.2 with a 2.4.0-test3 kernel to provide LVM support with sucess.

Setting up your machine for full LVM is tricky but entirely out of scope.

I'd recommend you grab 2.4.4 and the latest lvm tools http://www.sistina.com/lvm

They also have instructions on building a machine with the root filesystem as an lvm volume.

Actually, HP provided a lot of the code and documentation for the linux implementations of LVM. But true, rpmfind will get you the tools needed to get it up and running. Best support is in the 2.4 kernels.
