I've installed Mandrake 7.2 (Linxx Format coverdisk Xmas 2000) on a Vectra VL400DT with D8900A monitor driven by Matrox G450 card. Text mode works Ok, but starting XFree86 blacks-out VDU with error display "Attention Out the range H:85.8KHz V:168.9Hz". I've re-installed with 640*480 resolution - same problem. I've tried editing XF86Config to remove all Modelines except those for 70, 75 or 86Hz frame rate (recommended figures from HP VDU manual) - same problem. Now in desperate need of other ideas!! (Diagnostic files attached)

Thank you both! Unfortunately reconfiguring alone doesn't work. The eventual solution (from Matrox) was to update XFree to v 4.1.0, because v4.0.1 doesn't include data for the G4x0 family in its database. It's now working, although it is still critical on the resolution active at shutdown.
