sendmail SMTP AUTH

I am trying to compile and configure sendmail 8.11.4 so that it uses SMTP AUTH to relay messages for my remote users. I am following the instructions at the URL http://www.sendmail.net/usingsmtpauth.shtml. I have verified that I am using the most up to date version of Cyrus SASL, and I compiled sendmail as the instructions said to (I think?). When I connect to the sendmail daemon, I am unable to get the 250-AUTH to appear in the EHLO response. I have already turned LogFile parameter up to 14, but no messages are logged. Please help.

Thanks

Travis
