Rather than having to repartition your hard disk so you can try out a version
of linux, you may want try out winlinux from www.winlinux.net. This will
install and run with your existing OS, and you won't have to go through the
trouble of repartitioning your drive.

More than likely if you wanted to install another version of linux you'd have
to fdisk your drive and reinstall your os to accomodate both linux and win98.
hope this helps!

I purchased my Pavilion in August of 99 and it's the first real computer I've
ever had. It came with Windows 98 2nd ed. installed which is ok but I would
like to try Linux [particularly Corel Linux or Suse]. I have no idea how to
safely partition my computer for another OS. I have 20 gigs of hard drive
space and could probably accomodate 2 more OS besides windows if I wanted to.
Does anyone have an idea of what would be the best way to do this? Each OS has
its own partitioning utility. I'd like to hear from someone who has done this
or knows how. Thank you Ken

Ken,

It is best to install Windows 9.x or NT BEFORE installing any version of
Linux, as Windows installation will rewrite the boot sector. Obviously, with
the previously mentioned product 'WinLinux', this is not a factor as it shares
the filesystem with Windows. There is an excellent tutorial on disk
partitioning and installation of multiple OS's at
http://www.redhat.com/support/manuals/RHL-6.1-Manual/ref-guide/ch-partitions.htm
l

This should give you all the information you need to get started with any of
the popular distributions of linux. Good luck!
